Benidorm will host the colorful exhibition ‘Galaxia’ by the Taiwanese artist Hung Yi until July

Benidorm acollirà la colorista 'Galàxia' de l'artista taiwanés Hung Yi fins a juliol...

Benidorm will host ‘Galaxia Hung’ exhibition from Friday, April 16 until July 12. Fourteen sculptures inspired by the culture and daily life of Taiwan. This was announced this morning by the mayor, Toni Pérez, at a press conference in which he was accompanied by the councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, the curator of the exhibition, Eduardo Alcalde, and the content director of the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències (CAC) of Valencia, Miriam Atienza.

The exhibition, which has been seen from last December until this week at the CAC, will exhibit four sculptures in Plaza de la Hispanidad, two in Gambo Street, six in Avenida del Mediterráneo and two in Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes. of Spain, in front of the City Hall.

Hung Yi is one of the "most representative artists of the East", said Toni Pérez. ‘Galaxia Hung’ brings to Benidorm a “burst of color” that takes shape with “large-format creations”. An exhibition that, as is customary in the city since the urbà espai d’art entered service, allows “bringing art to our neighborhoods” our “way of making Benidorm open-air museums”.

‘Galaxy Hung’, the mayor insisted, is a “first-rate cultural event” that “very few cities in the world have achieved so far”. A mixture of light and color that "brings culture closer to people" and adds to Benidorm's tourist offer after "the desert we have crossed" in clear reference to the pandemic.

For his part, Eduardo Alcalde explained that the statues have a steel structure to which plates of the same material, clay with a layer of primer, paint, enameled and baked have been superimposed. "They weigh - he has clarified - more than a thousand kilos" and some have "a height of more than six meters", which shows the "complexity" of their transfer and installation.

During his time at the CAC, the Mayor has highlighted the "great public success" and, above all, the presence of the works on social networks thanks to the publication of images on social networks of the "thousands of people who have visited the exposition". Hung Yi "has painted each sculpture - he has nuanced - as if it were a comic" with "the influences" of Picasso, Dalí or Miró.

In her intervention, Miriam Atienza, thanked the City Council for the help and valued the common goal of "turning cities into museums" by taking exhibitions to the streets. Regarding the impact of 'Galaxy Hung', the first exhibition by an oriental artist of his significance in the CAC and in times of pandemic, he considers that it has meant "the life that we have lacked during the lock down" and has predicted a great success. in Benidorm.

The artist

Hung Yi was born in Taiwan in 1970. Self-taught, he is one of the most prestigious artists in the East. In recent years he has been very prolific in urban art.
