The European Commission finances Nereo project within the Context Broker program, which will reach the user as an app with real-time information
Benidorm will develop a pilot program based on sensorization to promote healthy leisure
Benidorm City Council is developing, in the hands of Everis, a pilot project to promote healthy leisure and that is based on sensorization and monitoring. This project, called Nereo, "is funded by the European Commission within the Context Broker program, with which it is intended to generate success stories that are scalable and replicable in other European cities," explained the Councilor for Innovation, Aida García Mayor.
The mayor has transferred that "this project will reach the citizen as an app in which they will have in a single platform and in real time all the information related to healthy leisure, such as the state of the beaches, the supply and occupation of the lanes bikes or hiking trails, as well as various environmental parameters ”. When generating and offering all the information in real time, Nereo will draw on “the data captured through the sensor used in the project: that of the already integrated city –including the one planned on Avenida Mediterráneo- and the one installed by Everis, the City Council's technological partner ”.
The use of this sensor will allow the user “to know parameters such as the occupation of the beach, the temperature of the water, the state of the sea, the temperature in different parts of the city, the humidity, the use that the lanes are registering -bike, etcetera ”.
Also “you can receive routes or healthy activities depending on your preferences and the state of the city; as well as personalized alerts on the parameters you choose ”. For example, alerts can be set if the level of occupation of the beaches reaches a certain percentage or if bathing is prohibited because the red flag is flying. In these cases, in addition "the user may receive proposals for alternative activities."
García Mayor has stated that "at the moment the project is in the testing, connection and evaluation phase by the European Commission and in the coming months it can be implemented with the launch and commissioning of the app citizen ”.
Likewise, she has clarified that "in this initial phase, the pilot is going to be applied in the surroundings of Levante beach and Avenida del Mediterráneo". From there, "if the operation and functionality have been satisfactory, the project can be extended to the entire city."
The head of Innovation has remarked that “once again, from Benidorm we are committed to the use of technological solutions, artificial intelligence and sensorization to improve the experience and quality of life of citizens, in this case promoting healthy leisure and healthy lifestyles, while defending and promoting the good use of assets such as beaches, hiking or cycling routes ”.
She has also delved into the fact that "apart from offering citizens healthy alternatives, the information from sensorization and monitoring will also allow the City Council to adopt corrective or preventive measures to reduce pollution or manage mobility even more efficiently."
All the details and progress of the Nereo project have recently been exposed by García Mayor herself to the European Commission in a webinar in which the Diputación de Orense and the Seville City Council also participated, the other two administrations that participate together with Benidorm and Everis in the Context Broker program.
