Benidorm will celebrate 'Dia de les Penyes' on Saturday, a prelude to the Patronal Majors Festivities
This Saturday, October 28, the traditional 'Dia de les Penyes' will take place, which, like every year, is organized by the Associació de Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge' in collaboration with the Department of Festivals directed by Mariló Cebreros and is a prelude to the November Patronal Majors Feasts. The revelers have scheduled numerous events that will take place throughout the day and whose highlight will be the 'Humouristic-Musical Contest', which will be held in two sessions: in the afternoon, the children's event, and in the evening, the adult event.
Mariló Cebreros, together with the president of the peñistas, Ramón Cano, has presented the program of activities for this day that will start at 8:00 in the morning with a 'despertà' that will start from the Casa del Fester 'Diego Cano Enguera', in the La Biga street, and will travel through Ruzafa, the Paseo de la Carretera, La Palma and will end, again, in La Biga, where, starting at 8:45 a.m., the revelers will regain their strength at the 'Peñista Breakfast'.
At 9:30 a.m., in a parade, the groups will go to the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna where a mass will take place. At the same time, registration will open for associated groups who wish to sign up for the traditional gymkhana to demonstrate their skills and expertise by drawing tests along an urban route.
At 11:00 a.m., the supporters' supporters will begin a new parade in the Plaza de Sant Jaume that will run through the historic center and end in the Parque de l'Aigüera, in the Julio Iglesias auditorium. There will be inflatable attractions, games for children, and food and drink bars at popular prices. At 12:30 the Associació de Penyes will receive authorities and guests who will then participate in 'La 'picaeta del Dia de les Penyes'. At 2:30 p.m. the venue will close.
Julio Iglesias will reopen its doors at 5:30 p.m. to continue the party. At 7:30 p.m. the Great Children's Playback Contest will begin and at 9:30 p.m., the Great Adult Playback Contest, among which there will be a total of 19 performances that will have the participation of up to 21 clubs. Regarding the children's contest, seven clubs will participate: El Cranc, Bavallons, Sembrant Festa, El Gos i la Tortuga, Malfaeners, L'Espardenya and Estem Com Volem, who will take the stage in this order, after the corresponding draw.
Regarding the Adult Playback Contest, seven performances have been registered for the musical category, which will star El Teuladí; La Cercavila; To Tot Arreu; Monkiki; Who Cacau; Desterrats, and La Revolada. Additionally, in the humorous category, there are five other performances registered, whose order of participation will be as follows: Paparinell; La Magrana and Arredeu Manolet; La Resistència; El Parotet; and La Castanya with Melomànics.
It has been planned that between both contests the Association will distribute sandwiches among the club members. Likewise, the senior and child queens of the Festes Majors Patronals 2023, Angélica Morenilla and Daniela Talavera, will perform, each in their category, along with their courts of honor, but they will do so outside of the competition.
Once the performances are over, there will be the jury's deliberation and awards ceremony, there will be a firing of fireworks, after midnight, and the party enlivened by Cadena SER's Los 40 Benidorm will continue at Julio Iglesias Auditorium.
