Benidorm will award its 'Cultural Distinction' to professor María José Lozano Pérez

The City Council will award its 'City of Benidorm Cultural Distinction' to Benidorm teacher María José Lozano Pérez. The Board of Spokespersons, convened by Mayor Toni Pérez, has endorsed the proposal submitted by the committee in charge of this award, composed of winners from previous editions. As usual, the 'City of Benidorm Cultural Distinction' will be presented on October 9th during the institutional plenary session for the Day of the Valencian Community, traditionally held at El Castell.
This distinction recognises María José Lozano's "outstanding cultural merits" throughout her career as a secondary school computer science teacher, advisor to the CEFIRE (Centre for Training, Innovation, and Educational Resources) in La Nucía, and as a person closely involved in numerous cultural activities in our city. Among these, Lozano served as the technical coordinator during the development of the 'Diccionari de Benidorm.' She has received various photography awards and has been published in various magazines and publications, mostly related to fashion or urban planning. She has also been a member of the Benidorm Choral Group, the Benidorm Musical Union, and in 1997 was one of the founding women of the Benidorm Island Musical Society.
In 2016, María José Lozano hosted the event representing the Town Charter. In 2025, the 700th anniversary of Benidorm's founding as a municipality with its own legal entity, she actively participated in the 700th Anniversary Commission, where she shared the duties of technical secretary with the official responsible for the Municipal Archive.
Mayor Toni Pérez publicly congratulated María José Lozano on behalf of the entire City Council for this "well-deserved award," adding that her name "joins the list of people and organisations that have contributed to deepening our history, preserving our traditions, and enhancing the culture of Benidorm."
