In addition to renovating the sewer and potable water pipes, the pavement of the sidewalks will be changed

Benidorm uses the improvement of the work of Gerona Street in adapting the sidewalks and the subsoil of Esperanto.

Benidorm emplea la mejora de la obra de la calle Gerona en adecuar las aceras y el subsuelo de Esperanto

Benidorm City Council is going to invest in Esperanto Street the improvement offered by the company awarded for the pedestrian works of Gerona Street. The mayor, Toni Pérez, has indicated that it is going to be acted "in a stretch of about 150 meters, which runs between Gerona street and the intersection with the Mediterráneo, linking with the future remodeling of the avenue."

Pérez has detailed that "at this moment we are already working in the subsoil, with the renewal of drinking water and sewage pipes and with the installation of optical fiber". "Later," he said, "the surface will be replaced by changing the current pavement and replacing it with anti-slip tiles."

The mayor, together with the councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, and municipal technicians has moved this morning to Gerona street to see how the pedestrian works are being developed and know the details of the complementary action that has already begun in Esperanto street. All these works will be completed in approximately three weeks, although the section of Gerona could be ready a week before.

The works to make this part of Gerona pedestrian, between Esperanto and Orts Llorca, has meant an investment of about 380,000 euros, to which is added the 44.84% increase in measurement offered by the contractor. In addition to leaving this section 100% accessible and free of architectural barriers -with sidewalks and road to the same height-, the works have also reached the basement of the street, where a rainwater collection system has been created to prevent small floods in case of heavy rains.
For the pavement it has been opted for deactivated concrete, of a blue tone in the section of sidewalks and with fragments of aggregates of white marble. Likewise, ornamental trees have been installed.

The mayor stressed that "this work is important because it will improve the urban scene, the accessibility and pedestrian traffic in a street with a clear hospitality vocation, but also because it allows us to continue advancing and positioning ourselves in technological matters, since the lighting will work with optical fiber and will have a Wi-Fi system and sensors for later use linked to multimedia apps ". Perez recalled that this same system has also been installed in the streetlights of the upper section of Almendros Street, and it means moving forward in the creation of an urban Wi-Fi network.

These luminaires equipped with Wi-Fi technology are in the process of being manufactured and will be installed in the coming weeks, once the works on the road have been completed.
