Benidorm City Council will proceed with the renovation of the lighting in the Levante area to improve lighting and its performance, an action that is part of the second phase of the Energy Efficiency Project in the municipal public lighting installations, whose tender has been approved today by the Local Government Board.

This second phase corresponds to the so-called Levante Zone and has a bidding budget of 2,527,730.45 euros. The project is 50% financed with European funds through the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), which will reach all the city's neighbourhoods.

Once the contract has been awarded, the procedure for which will be ordinary and open, the installation of the new luminaires and their replacement with LED technology will take place within six months. The estimated energy saving, according to the mayor Toni Pérez, "reaches up to 79%", which has advanced that the luminaires "will also have a remote management system to change the intensity and power of the lights".

The intervention will act on 3,512 light points and 55 command centres, which means renewing 43.85% of the 7,660 light points that exist in the area. This will allow the installed power to be reduced from 759.59 kW to 195.01 kW.

The mayor has also stressed that "all the wiring will be new", in addition to showing his "absolute" willingness to allow residents to express all their demands in terms of lighting "because they are the ones who know the place best".

The mayor also explained that "this ambitious project is going to make Benidorm a more sustainable city and destination", and added that with it "we follow the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and working side by side with the municipal technicians so that this important political vocation translates into realities for the people of Benidorm”.
Pérez stressed that the City Council continues to "improve public services" and that "thanks to this trajectory we have greatly reduced the electricity bill, despite its brutal increase". He also underlined that with the IDAE "we reach all the neighbourhoods of the city and we do it with innovation, technology and vanguard lighting, with less light pollution and lower cost".
