Benidorm revives the classic Don Juan Tenorio in the dramatized reading of the Cultural Week of the local festivities
Last night at 8:00 p.m., Benidorm Town Hall's Assembly Hall hosted a dramatic reading of Don Juan Tenorio, the classic play by José Zorrilla, performed by Tossal Teatre and Alpí Teatre. The performance was part of the Cultural Week of the Major Patron Saint Festivities, organised by the Departments of Culture, headed by Jaime Jesús Pérez Fiestas, and Fiestas. The event drew a large audience who enjoyed an evening of theatre filled with emotion and high-quality acting.
Among those in attendance were the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer; the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the municipal council; the queens of the 2025 Patron Saint Festivals, Paula Pascual and Aitana Pérez; and, representing the Festival Committee, Lynn Corden.
Before the performance began, Honorio Fornier, president of the Tramontana Castilian-Manchegan Sociocultural Association of Benidorm, presented gifts to the festival queens.
The Tossal Teatre cast delivered an intense and respectful stage reading of Zorrilla's original text, transporting the audience to the romantic and passionate atmosphere of the classic Don Juan Tenorio.
Don Juan Tenorio is a romantic drama that tells the story of a womaniser. The action unfolds during Carnival celebrations and concludes on All Souls' Day. Its protagonist, a seducer who defies and mocks the moral norms of his time, ends up falling sincerely in love with the innocent Doña Inés, and it is precisely this love that redeems him and saves him from eternal damnation.
