The City Council performs this emergency action while preparing the project to renew the entire platform with other more resistant material

Benidorm repara los tramos dañados de pasarela del Paseo de Poniente

Benidorm City Council has begun to repair the damaged sections of the wooden walkway of Paseo de Poniente located on the sand of the beach. The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilman of Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, have visited the area to see how works on the walkway are progressing, which has involved an investment of 48,400 euros.

De Zárate explained that "this is an emergency action much requested by residents and tourists, and that will allow us to guarantee the safety and integrity of the users of Poniente beach who use the walkway, avoiding accidents". The mayor stressed that "it is an urgent and provisional solution, since our intention is to renew in 2019 the entire platform of the walkway".

For this, according to the councilman, "tests have been done with various materials" to check the durability, performance and functionality of each. Thus, pine wood, iroko wood, synthetic imitation wood and rubber "to see which material is most appropriate" is being tested for its resistance, maintenance and aesthetics. Once the final solution is chosen, the mayor has announced that "we will do a comprehensive renovation project for the entire walkway".

Waiting for that final solution, with the emergency action that is already underway "in addition to repairing the fasteners and sanding and leveling the slats of 3,500 square meters of walkway, we are replacing about 5% of the total surface of the platform -About 220 square meters-, specifically the slats that are more deteriorated and that it is impossible to restore ".

De Zárate indicated that "the works are being developed now because it is the time of the year with least use and occupation of the beach."
