Almost 400 catering establishments participate in the summer Ecovidrio campaign
Benidorm recycles 1,200 tons of glass in summer and marks a new record
Benidorm recycled more than 1,200 tons of glass during the three months of summer, marking a new record by exceeding by "3%" the figures of last year, as reported by a press conference Environment Councilor, José Ramón González de Zárate, and Roberto Fuentes, manager of Ecovidrio in Levante area. Both have pointed out that "once again" the campaign "Take note, recycle glass" has broken all the previous records, also in relation to the number of participants, with "almost 400 hotels and restaurants."
The councillor of Environment stressed that "Benidorm is again a reference" and "an example" to follow in terms of recycling, thanks to "the involvement and environmental awareness of business and citizenship" that "make it possible for data to improve every year". De Zárate underlined "the close collaboration" between the local administration and Ecovidrio, which has given the City Hall a prize for its results.
The manager of Ecovidrio in the area reported that "almost 10% of the glass that is recovered in the Valencian Community during the summer season corresponds to Benidorm", which "is at the head of recycling not only in summer, but in the whole of the year". Thus, the average recycled glass in Benidorm is 57 kilos per person, while the regional data is just under 17.
Fuentes thanked the participating establishments for their work, "true actors of this campaign" and that in many cases maintain the elements for recycling provided by Ecovidrio throughout the year.
