The mayor, Toni Pérez, points out that the solution to combat "turismophobia" is not to limit activity but to give legal tools to exercise control

Benidorm hosts the IV National Congress of Apartments and Tourist Housing

25 October 2018
Benidorm acoge el IV Congreso Nacional de Apartamentos y Viviendas Turísticas

The Hall of Acts of Benidorm City Council hosts since this morning the IV Congress of Apartments and Tourist Housing organized by APTUR (Association of Tourist Apartment Companies of the Costa Blanca) under the theme "Impact of Tourist Housing on the Economy and its future before the regulatory changes ". The Congress closes this afternoon and its opening has been attended by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, along with other members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as Raquel Huete, general director of Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana and Eduardo Dolón, Provincial deputy of Tourism of the Costa Blanca.

More than a hundred professionals and businessmen from different Autonomous Communities attend the Congress together with the president of Fevitur (Spanish Federation of Associations of Housing and Tourist Apartments) Tolo Gomila, and the president of Aptur, Miguel Ángel Sotillos.

Along the same different specialists have cracked the legislative and fiscal framework of the activity of tourist housing, as well as "round tables" where representatives from different areas of Spain have shared the characteristics of the development of the activity, new trends of the market and the economic impact.

At the inauguration of the Congress, the mayor, Toni Pérez, stressed the importance of Aptur and the sector that represents in Benidorm, the number of companies, housing and accommodation places, and highlighted the close and fruitful cooperation relationship that the City Council of Benidorm has remained with Aptur since its inception. He also highlighted "the rigorous and constant work of Aptur in defense of principles and values closely related to excellence, legality and quality in the destination's offer".

Toni Pérez also wanted to highlight the important role of the companies they represent, because "you give satisfaction," he said, "to a sector of demand that should not be interpreted as a threat to the whole tourist activity of the destination. It is obvious that our concern as Local Administration, destination managers, is to achieve the necessary balance in the coexistence between tourists and residents, and that today is beginning to be questioned in some destinations, but not in Benidorm. Combat the "turismofobia," - concluded the mayor, "does not pass by limiting the activity, but by providing tourist housing managers with legal tools that allow to exercise due control over the use that customers make of housing."

He also referred to the provision of Aptur at the time of "contributing his experience to the service of the whole of the management of the tourist activity of the Valencian Community". On this issue he recalled that in recent times the sector "is facing a legislative change of great significance, which has generated uncertainty and insecurity, and requires administrations with competence in the matter, urgent responses. The consensus among all operators and institutions, he added, should be the way forward. "
