Two 46-year-old women murdered in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cádiz

Benidorm pays tribute to the first two victims of male violence in 2023

10 January 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has called this noon a minute of silence to condemn the first two sexist murders confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence of 2023. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have led the silent rally that has shown, once again, the strongest rejection of this social scourge by the Municipal Corporation.

On this occasion, two women, both 46 years old, have been honored. The first from the Tenerife town of Adeje, supposedly by her 44-year-old ex-husband, had four minor children. The second, in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), by her 40-year-old partner, leaves a minor daughter. Both men have been arrested and are at judicial disposal.

These are the first two cases of victims of gender violence in Spain in 2023. Since 2003 there are already 1,184 women murdered for this reason in our country.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has specialized personnel in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
