Benidorm opens Poniente car park with capacity for more than 350 free spaces

Since this morning, the public parking located in the Poniente area, on Puerto Rico Street, close to the confluence with Armada Española, has been operational, a parking lot with capacity for more than 350 free spaces, of which about 211 were already operational. and which could be accessed from República Argentina Avenue.

As the Mobility Councilor, Francis Muñoz, announced last week, before the beginning of July this parking lot would be made available to users, specifically the 156 covered spaces found inside the building, since the remaining ones, at the top in a paved and signposted space, they were already available to users. It is a unique, very recognizable building located just a few meters from Poniente Beach.

The facility was visited this morning by Mayor Toni Pérez, accompanied by the Mobility councillor himself, to verify that the parking lot is “perfectly prepared and conditioned to begin receiving users.” Pérez recalled that last year the technical assistance of a company was hired to put the facilities into operation so that management was left in the hands of the City Council. "After this experience and given the results of the application of this management model in the l'Aigüera parking lot, the local government chose to extrapolate this formula to this parking lot in Poniente," he indicated. However, he specified that the specifications “are being finalized.” “The contracting file is still in process, so as soon as it is resolved, the new management model will be implemented,” said the mayor.

Toni Pérez has insisted that the government intended that "the parking could be at full capacity in the months of maximum occupancy of the beaches, as has been the case" and has highlighted that with this infrastructure "there is capacity to take on the volume of vehicles of regular residents and tourists in the area.” In that sense, he has specified that until now the more than 200 operational spaces in the upper part of the building that operate regularly "have presented a maximum occupancy of 30%, so at no time have there been problems finding parking in the zone".

This car park joins the rest of the offer of municipal park-and-ride car parks located throughout the municipality, which make up an extensive network of more than 8,000 spaces.

This Poniente car park will be operational every day from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The places will be free until the management is awarded and until then they will be attended by the City Council's staff. Toni Pérez, finally, encouraged the residents of Poniente “to get to know this facility and know that they have at their disposal a new infrastructure that makes it easier for them to park their vehicle.”
