Benidorm observes a minute of silence for the woman murdered in Albuñol (Granada)

28 July 2022
Minuto de silencio.

Benidorm has observed a minute of silence this afternoon in protest against sexist violence and memory of the last victim in Spain, murdered in the Granada town of Albuñol.

The silent concentration has been led by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí. It has also had the presence of representatives of the three political groups of the Corporation.

On this occasion, the victim was 50 years old and her body was found last Monday morning after having suffered various gunshot wounds that ended her life. The alleged perpetrator of the malicious act, her husband, subsequently committed suicide.

The woman had four adult children and is the twenty-fifth victim of sexist violence in Spain in 2022. Since 2003, the year in which statistics began to be computed, 1,155 women have lost their lives for this cause in our country.

The Department of Equality reiterates, once again, that Benidorm City Council offers women who are in a situation of danger free of charge, its staff specialized in gender violence, trained to provide advice to any woman, a free service.

In addition, it reiterates that women who need it, have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
