Benidorm makes more accessible the visits to the Tossal 'castellum' with an audio guide on the municipal website

24 August 2020
Benidorm hace más accesible la visita al ‘castellum’ del Tossal con una audioguía alojada en la web municipal

The visit to the 'castellum' of Tossal de La Cala is now more accessible, thanks to the commissioning of an audio guide on the municipal website, www.benidorm.org, and to which users can access through the codes QR installed on the information panels located at different points of the site. This is what the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, has said today, who has detailed that "this audio guide available in Spanish, Valencian and English contains all the information collected in the panels, thus contextualizing the historical period of the site and providing details on the importance , operation and characteristics of this 'castellum' from the 1st century BC, the only one excavated in extension ”.

Pellicer has indicated that "the audio guide improves accessibility, but also makes the visit to the‘ castellum ’more enjoyable for the little ones and complements the experience for the people who visit the site." The councillor has stressed that "visitors can access this audio guide through their mobile devices, a comfortable and practical option for which it is only necessary to have a QR code reader installed."

The person in charge of Historical Heritage explained that "the commissioning of this audio guide is a complementary action to the recently completed musealization works that have made possible the recovery and enhancement of our Tossal, a site that is already an international benchmark of the military architecture of the late-republican period and that we hope will soon obtain official recognition as a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) that it has been waiting for more than three decades ”.

In addition to the audio guide, which will also be available in El Castell in the coming weeks, the Tossal panels will include shortly a space in ‘braille’ for the blind.

Pellicer recalled that the Tossal de La Cala can be visited from Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and that “from 15 September there will be guided group tours open to the general public to learn about the site and the different findings that have been made during the archaeological intervention and museumization project, as well as in the successive excavation campaigns carried out by the University of Alicante and directed by professors Feliciana Sala and Jesús Moratalla ”. These group visits, similar to those carried out in El Castell, can now begin to be arranged through the email patrimonihistoric@benidorm.org.
