This measure goes hand in hand with the new configuration of Mediterráneo Avenue and follows post Covid-19 ’mobility strategy.

Benidorm makes the lower part of Doctor Orts Llorca street pedestrian

06 July 2020
Benidorm peatonaliza la parte baja de la calle Doctor Orts Llorca

Benidorm City Council is going to make pedestrian the lower part of Doctor Orts Llorca street, between Esperanto and Mediterráneo. The Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González, explained that "this action is within the planning derived from the new configuration of Mediterráneo Avenue" and also "in tune with 'post Covid-19' mobility strategy of the Generalitat Valenciana , of which Benidorm is described as an example, and which promotes giving preference to pedestrian streets to increase the interpersonal distance, allowing only the restricted circulation of vehicles and with speeds of 10 kilometers per hour ”.

De Zárate has reported that this measure will be implemented "between tonight and tomorrow", and once it is effective "there will be coexistence between cars and pedestrians, although the absolute priority will be pedestrians and the passage of vehicles will be limited to access to fords and garages, and to parking in the blue zone squares arranged in this section of Doctor Orts Llorca ”.

In addition to pedestrianizing this section, the direction of movement between Mediterranean and Gerona street will also be reversed.

As stressed by the mayor, with this pedestrianization "we also ended one of the problems that have moved us the most in recent years, the residents of the area, who saw with concern how there were drivers who were travelling this section at an excessive speed that, now It is limited to 10 kilometers per hour ”.

De Zárate has indicated that with this action "we complete the pedestrian triangle that make up Mediterráneo, the initial section of Gerona and the lower part of Doctor Orts Llorca street".
