Culture and Education invite schools and highschools to participate in this activity in their own centers on December 21

Benidorm joins the 'Día más Corto' with three free screenings for different audiences

12 December 2017
Benidorm se suma al ‘Día más Corto’ con tres proyecciones gratuitas para diferentes públicos

Benidorm adds this year to the celebration of 'Día más Corto' (ED + C), a day that annually takes place on December 21 to publicize the Spanish short film to the general public, and that at national level is organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Coordinator of the Short Film, the Cervantes Institute and the Film Academy. The councilwoman of Culture, Ana Pellicer, and the director of production and distribution Beatriz Hernández, have reported that Benidorm will participate in this fifth edition of 'ED + C' with three sessions of free screenings aimed at different types of public.

The first one will be carried out, with the collaboration of Caja Mediterráneo Foundation, in the Culture Room that the entity has in Alameda street from 11:00 to 13:00 hours. Pellicer and Hernández explained that this morning screening "is focused primarily on senior audiences, with short films starring actors over 60 years," although access is free to any viewer regardless of age. In this same space an evening projection will be developed, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a broader program, but focused on adults.

The youngest will also have their particular screening at the Central Library, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Hernández has indicated that for this screening is going to opt for short films "animated and without dialogue, about several minutes long, and easy to understand for children from 3 or 4 years." The Councilor for Culture has detailed that it has been chosen to take this activity for children to the Central Library as "the little ones are accustomed to go to it to participate in children's activities like storytellers"

The person in charge of Culture has indicated that from the Town hall it is wanted that this activity of cinematographic promotion arrives at the greater possible public, taking care of the "cultural component" of the initiative. Therefore, the Department of Culture and Education have sent a 'mailing' to schools and Secondary Education Institutes (IES), as well as the Official School of Languages to join this activity and carry out projections in their centers .

In this regard, Pellicer has detailed that the organization of 'ED + C' has designed several short film programs, so "each center can select the theme of the works you want to display and the age range, adapting it to subjects that are tackling in the classrooms. " In addition, there are also "projections in French and English".

Last year the 346 samples were reached at an international level, including other European and Latin American countries; a figure that "we hope to overcome this year", according to Hernández. At this time, more than a week to celebrate 'ED + C' there are already 316 samples confirmed.

'ED + C'

This year's is the fifth edition of 'ED + C'. Throughout December 21, and coinciding with the winter solstice, the organizing entities enable an online platform that allows free access for 24 hours to 250 short films. To be able to view these works and organize public or private exhibitions, you just have to register on the web www.eldiamascorto.com.
