Benidorm instala en Poniente una escultura en forma de pez para fomentar el reciclaje de plástico en las playas

Benidorm City Council's Department of Beaches and Environment has installed a fish-shaped sculpture on Poniente Beach. The piece aims to promote plastic recycling on beaches and prevent this waste from ending up in the sea. The piece is part of the project to raise awareness about the importance of recycling, being carried out by the department, led by Councillor Mónica Gómez. Today, she visited this first sculpture with Mayor Toni Pérez to verify its reception among beach users.

The fish, a work by sculptor Rosendo Porro Cuesta, was created from iron and nets and is accompanied by the legend "The only fish that should eat plastic." It is located on Poniente Beach, in the La Cala area, next to one of the accesses located near Avenida del Murtal, a place "with a lot of traffic from users and bathers, and where we believe it can work very well," explained Mónica Gómez.

The councillor explained that the cleaning and collection of the containers deposited in this fish will be carried out by the company in charge of beach management, RA Benidorm. She also noted that this first sculpture is a pilot project and that, "once its use and acceptance among beachgoers has been confirmed, the possibility of expanding the network to other locations in the West or East will be studied."

For his part, Mayor Toni Pérez stated that "we continue to promote actions aimed at protecting and caring for our environment; in this case, for a resource as precious to us as the sea, by encouraging the collection of plastics on the beaches." He also stated, "We do this through this sculpture, which resembles a fish closely linked to Benidorm, the 'raoret'. Therefore, in addition to caring for the environment, we also unite art and tradition in a unique space like our beaches."
