The initiative aimed to give a second life to different elements of public furniture with the creative proposals of the participants

Benidorm installs bins decorated by the artists of the 1st Urban Art Conference on the beaches

Benidorm instala en las playas las papeleras decoradas por los artistas de la I Jornada de Arte Urbano

Benidorm City Council, through the Departments of Historical and Cultural Heritage and Environment, has proceeded to place the bins that were decorated by the participants in the I Urban Art Conference last June at Foietes Park. An activity that aims to give a second life to different spaces and elements of public furniture, intervening in them with the best proposals of the participating urban artists.

The litter bins, now with the new decoration, have returned to their original place of origin and have been located on the beaches of Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas, according to the Councilor for the Environment and Beaches, Mónica Gómez, who also specified that The bins have been given a coat of primer before installation to protect them from the weather and prolong their life.

For her part, the Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, has highlighted the importance "of giving a second life to these urban elements and doing it attractively." The councillor has indicated that this initiative “is in line with our commitment to sustainability, responsible use and respect and protection of the environment.”

Urban Art Day was held on June 8 in a participatory event open to the public and was held coinciding with World Environment Day, commemorated on June 5. There the public voted for their favorite proposals that have now been installed on the beaches for the enjoyment of users.

Ana Pellicer has advanced that both councils "will continue working together in this line, so in future editions of the Urban Art Day the creative proposals will be made in other elements of urban furniture."

This year the themes on which the creative proposals in the bins have been focused on sustainability, beaches and/or the environment and Benidorm. However, the theme may change each year "to adapt to the needs or circumstances of each moment” explained Pellicer.
