Benidorm incorporates improvements in the pumping station at Plaza de la Hispanidad treatment plant for a value of 98,546 euros

The Local Government Board (JGL) of Benidorm City Council has approved today an investment of 98,546.73 euros to undertake actions to improve technical elements in the pumping system of the EBAR at Plaza de la Hispanidad and in the air network compressed from the WWTP due to its obsolescence status.

Last August, the company awarded the maintenance and operation of the pumping stations and the treatment plant, Aquambiente, warned of the need to replace the four pumps at the Plaza de la Hispanidad Pumping Station due to the fact that the rate of Clogging of these impellers makes continued operation of the station impossible.

The Councilor for Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that "the technicians have told us that the current pumps are not capable of emptying the humid chamber of the pumping despite the fact that the theoretical flow of these pumps is higher than that access the camera itself. For this reason, it has been proposed to replace this model of pumps "with others of new manufacture and high efficiency and equipped with impellers capable of avoiding clogging".

This will not be the only improvement action to be carried out, since it has also been detected that the equipment that pressurizes the airline in the WWTP "is insufficient because it is undersized for the current needs of the plant" the mayor has indicated.

This implies the presence of continuous problems "in different parts of the treatment plant, such as the opening of the discharge gates or the control of pressurization and sludge flotation." These systems also do not have a soundproofing cabin or drying equipment. "It is necessary and essential to adapt them to current regulations" stated González de Zárate, who added that "the only solution is to replace the compressors".

The municipal technicians had reported favorably on the proposal made by the successful bidder and that is why the Governing Board has approved the investment. "What we want is to solve the problems that arise in some infrastructures that are essential for the city and for water management, problems that often derive from the age of the facilities and elements that must be replaced" the councilor concluded.
