Benidorm City Council has today incorporated the first 29 people hired for 12 months within the great employment plan promoted by the City Council and co-financed with resources from European Social Fund through LABORA. The hiring of these 29 people is part of the ECOVID program and all of them will serve in the Public Space area, joining the municipal technical services brigades. These are, specifically, 10 building maintainers, four maintenance and repair electricians, seven forest laborers and eight public works laborers.
The acting mayor, Ana Pellicer; the Councilor for Employment and Local Development, Mónica Gómez; and the councillor of Human Resources, Ángela Zaragozí, have welcomed this staff and have informed them about the functions they will perform during the next 12 months.
Gómez recalled that "through ECOVID program a total of 84 unemployed people aged 30 and over will be hired for a period of one year." The first 29 people provide service from today, while "the remaining 55 workers, from the Customer Service department, will be incorporated at the beginning of next week and will be distributed in different departments and municipal offices," she clarified.
Also next week, 57 young people under the age of 30 hired through the EMPUJU program, "the other program of the great municipal employment plan", will begin to serve in the City Council.
In total, the person in charge of Employment has stressed, "with this great employment plan, made up of  ECOVID and EMPUJU programs, 141 unemployed people from Benidorm, of all ages, will be hired for a year to carry out work of public service". “We have always defended that the best social policy is employment and this ambitious plan, which reaches 3.7 million euros, is a clear example of this, since through these jobs we are injecting the economy into more than 140 Benidorm homes ”.

Economic detail of the great employment plan

ECOVID program is endowed with 2 million euros, of which the City Council contributes about 750,000. The remaining amount, just over 1.2 million euros, is financed with resources from the European Social Fund, through LABORA within the framework of the 2014-2020 Operational Program of the Valencian Community (Avalem Experiència Plus). The ECOVID has led to 84 hires.
For its part, the EMPUJU program reaches 1.7 million euros. The City Council contributes more than 625,000 euros, thus complementing the LABORA subsidy of 1.1 million euros also from the European Social Fund within the same Operational Program. 57 young people benefit from this program.
All the people have been hired through a selection process based on the instructions of the General Directorate of LABORA, carried out by this body and the City Council, in which the unions have also participated.
