Changes in the direction of traffic, modifications in traffic light times and creation of new lanes to increase the fluidity of traffic

Benidorm improves traffic in the main access roads to Levante

17 August 2022
Benidorm interviene en las principales vías de acceso a Levante para mejorar el tráfico

The Benidorm City Council has completed a series of actions to improve mobility on the main access roads to the Levante area, to make vehicle traffic more fluid at peak times.

These interventions began last year on Europa Avenue with the entrance to the road from Esperanto Street, new access to Mediterranean Avenue and the placement of a permanent amber traffic light from Ibiza Street for the exit to Europe "so traffic would flow much better”, recalled the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate.

Similarly, some waiting times at traffic lights have been changed to give priority to the vehicle. “The bike lane in the centre of Europa Avenue road and the new access from Europa Avenue to Jaén Street, the entrance to the Cultural Center also helps a lot” he indicated, since it is “an area in which there are many second homes, hotel establishments and tourist apartments and this access unlocks the only one that existed before, which was the one on Lepanto Street”.

After these first actions, González de Zárate added, "we have managed to divide the car traffic and improve traffic flow, in a summer season in which there are many vehicles, specifically around 8% more than in the year 2021”.

On the other hand, this morning another improvement work has been completed at the junction of Comunidad Valenciana and Europa avenues with the creation of an additional lane at the roundabout "so that there are fewer waiting times when the vehicles arrive at this point". In the opinion of the councillor "these are traffic measures that all together encourage one of the most important avenues and with the largest number of vehicles to present hardly any problems."

In addition to these interventions, the Councilor for Mobility has also recalled the arrangements carried out on sidewalks, lighting and urban furniture "and the creation of accessible bus stops, with a road with no sidewalks, and two others for the occasional bus service". "In short, important actions and measures that have avoided traffic problems in an area that has been very conflictive in other years," he added.
