Benidorm has 3 presentations at the II Congress of Smart Tourist Destinations of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)

26 June 2018
Benidorm protagoniza 3 ponencias en el II Congreso de Destinos Turísticos Inteligentes de la Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT)

Benidorm participates in the II World Congress of the UNWTO of Smart Tourist Destinations, held in Oviedo (Asturias) from June 25 to 27, convened by the World Tourism Organization together with the Government of Spain and the Government of the Principality of Asturias .

The World Congress of Smart Tourist Destinations is the annual meeting of international experts in tourism, where opportunities and challenges for the sector and tourist destinations are discussed, arising from the development and new services that can be provided with new technologies. Benidorm participates, therefore, in the global forum in which the new tourism models of the 21st century are being shaped and which are being based on innovation, technology, sustainability, governance and accessibility.

The appointment was attended by Leire Bilbao, manager of Visit Benidorm and Celia Romero, Smart Tourist coordinator of the City Council's DTI Management Entity, and responsible for explaining the experience and work that Benidorm is doing to become the first world's smart certified tourist destination.

The city is immersed in this transformation and, as indicated by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez: "Benidorm has boarded the smart cities train through the Spanish Network of Smart Cities-RECI, which are committed to solutions technologies for its digital transformation, and has marked the roadmap through a Master Plan for the years 2015-2020, and whose purpose is the transformation of the city towards a DTI ". At present, Benidorm will co-host the Tourism Group, together with Palma, of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities.

In addition, Benidorm has been one of the four cities in which the UNE 178501 standard for the Management of Smart Tourist Destinations has been tested, and Visit Benidorm was the first public-private foundation at the national level to have a certified tourist intelligence system .

The meeting held in Asturias has served to highlight the standardization of ITDs, and the advancement of tourism intelligence in the Technological Platforms, a task that Benidorm is developing before the International Telecommunications Union with the help of SESIAD (Secretariat State of the Information Society and Digital Agenda) and whose experience has already been shared in similar meetings held in Geneva and Cairo. Benidorm's experience and proposals were also transferred by Àlex Viyeira, from Mabrian, and Mauricio Socias exhibited the sustainable wifi project implemented in Benidorm. The Minister of Industry and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, present at the congress, had the opportunity to see first hand the work that Benidorm has been developing in the standardization of the DTI.
