Benidorm finalizes the details for its incorporation into the negotiation of safe corridors with Europe

22 October 2020
Benidorm ultima els detalls per a la seua incorporació a la negociació dels corredors segurs amb Europa...

In a telematic conference held this morning between the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés Vereslt, the Benidorm Island Pilot Project was presented to the Ministry of Tourism for the implementation of a safe tourist corridor between Benidorm and the United Kingdom already outlined in the middle of last September. Nuria Montes Secretary General of HOSBEC and Secretary of Visit Benidorm Foundation Leire Bilbao and manager of the same have attended the work meeting in order to know first-hand the workforce and the analysis of the capacities of the destination in the roadmap develop.

The objective of Benidorm Island is to show that the city-tourist destination behaves for the British market like an island and tourists remain there as a resort without leaving it, while Benidorm also maintains minimum incidence rates of the pandemic. The initiative includes a series of technological and human resources to be implemented, where the Hospitality Team stands out and the absolute involvement of the entire tourist operation of the city, in a series of very specific phases.

The meeting shows that Benidorm has a very complete and developed planning in its Benidorm Island proposal and that it will join the negotiation of safe corridors with Europe through the Generalitat Valenciana, after the agreement announced this Saturday between the Minister of Tourism Reyes Maroto and President Ximo Puig, and that this Monday with the contact between the minister and the regional secretary, Francesc Colomer, to articulate the negotiation space between the Government of Spain and other European countries that allows the Valencian Community to be included in those corridors.

The Benidorm Island proposal, as explained in the presentation, can be implemented to other tourist destinations always based on "the bubble possibility" for tourists, airport and transport availability and the implementation of complementary technological and health measures as well as protocols of Traceability from the arrival of tourists to the airport until days after their return to the UK with personalized monitoring.

The final negotiation will be undertaken by the Ministries of Tourism, Foreign Affairs and Health with their equivalents from third countries; United Kingdom in the case of Benidorm.
