Today, Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence as a sign of rejection and condemnation of the latest murder due to gender violence committed against a woman in Barcelona. The silent rally took place at the door of City Hall, led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and members of the local corporation.

The victim, 32 years old and without minor children, was murdered by her partner on June 3 after being thrown from the fourth floor. The Government Delegation has confirmed that there were no previous complaints of mistreatment. The man, who has already been arrested, is in prison.

This murder brings to 12 the number of women who have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year and to 1,256 the victims of sexist violence since 2003 when the statistics began.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
