The mayor participates in a round table with the Secretary of State, Segittur, UNE and ICTE

Benidorm exposes its experience in the transit to the DTI in Fitur Know-How & Export

23 January 2019
Benidorm expone su experiencia en el tránsito hacia el DTI en Fitur Know-How & Export

Benidorm today was the protagonist of a round table at Fitur Know-How & Export, in which the mayor, Toni Pérez, exposed the city's experience in transit to become the first Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) certified in the world . In this Smart Talk entitled 'Spain leads the Normalization in Smart Tourist Destinations', representatives of the different entities and administrations that have sponsored, promoted and protected Rule 178501 of the Smart Tourist Destinations Management System have also participated. Specifically, Pérez has shared an intervention with Javier García, general director of UNE; Miguel Mirones, president of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE); and Rubén Pulido, deputy general director of Tourism Development and Sustainability of the Secretary of State. The president of Segittur, Enrique Martínez, has been in charge of moderating the Smart Talk.

During his speech, the mayor stressed that "the process to achieve certification as DTI has allowed us to offer as a laboratory of ideas" for the implementation of pilot innovation projects, "part of which are already benefiting residents and tourists" . Pérez has remembered getting the certification "it was a challenge and we had the conviction to face it". Now, he added, "we hope that our example serves to convince many more destinations to bet on this transition to digital transformation in its strategy to reposition itself and adapt to current and future demands of tourism", working on the axes of innovation , technology, accessibility, sustainability and governance.

For its part, the president of Segittur has congratulated Benidorm for this certification and has ensured that Benidorm "is the reality" of the DTI.

Benidorm achieved at the end of December to be certified with the Q Mark granted by the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE) once the audit was completed in accordance with the UNE 178501 standard for the Management System of Smart Tourist Destinations made by AENOR. This norm was promoted by Segittur, the State Tourism and Innovation Society dependent on the Secretary of State for Tourism, within the Spanish Association for Standardization, UNE.

The standard tested and surpassed by Benidorm establishes the requirements that destinations must meet to be certified as DTI, so the city has become the benchmark for all those who aspire to successfully cover the transition to digital transformation.

Benidorm will also be present tomorrow at another table of Fitur Know-How & Export in the hands of the manager of the Foundation Visit Benidorm, Leire Bilbao, which will address the 'Good Practices of Sustainability in Smart Tourist Destinations'.
