For security, pots will be placed between Europa and Castellón avenues to avoid trips of more than two blocks
Benidorm expands traffic restrictions on a new stretch of Paseo de Levante
The City Council will expand the traffic restrictions on the first line of Levante to deepen the safety of the seafront, one of the busiest pedestrian crossing points of the city. Thus, in the section between Castellón and Europe avenues will be implemented the same measures that already operate since October between Alcoy and Europa avenues, with the aim that "vehicles do not make long trips and are on the ride as short as possible", as explained by the councilor of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate.
De Zárate has indicated that "in this second action, which will take effect on December 14, we will continue the same dynamic" as in the previous section, installing flowerpots in the central part of the road at the height of the Europa, Cuenca and Almería avenues. In this way "vehicles can access Paseo de Levante by one block and exit by the next" but do not make longer journeys.
Thus, vehicles that reach the seafront through Murcia Avenue can only circulate one block, so when arriving at Europa or Cuenca Avenue they will be forced to come again to Mediterráneo Avenue. In the same way, the vehicles that access byDoctor Don Miguel Martorell street will only be able to transit until Cuenca or Almeria, returning to Mediterráneo Avenue; while the vehicles that reach the avenue along Castellón Avenue and turn right will go as far as Almería Avenue.
On the latter, the council has warned that "will become a one-way exit to Mediterráneo Avenue." On Almeria Avenue the parking on one of the sidewalks will also be eliminated, while on the opposite it will be converted into a parking lot "with what we will gain places".
The councilor stressed that residents are guaranteed access to their fords and garages, and added that the pots that are going to be installed on the road are temporary, since "by 2018 we will implement control centers with cameras and folding pillars " that will be connected to the local police headquarters.
Works in Pérez Llorca
De Zárate also referred to the closing of the traffic in Doctor Pérez Llorca Street due to the semi-pedestrianization of the section between Valencia Street and Martínez Alejos Avenue, which will begin next week. As he pointed out, "the first thing we are going to do is summon the neighbors and merchants to inform them about the planning of the work" in a meeting to be held on Monday, December 11 at 2:00 pm on the first floor of the City Council. In addition to informing about the schedule of the works, "in this meeting we want them to ask us everything they want and to transfer all the concerns they have regarding the works".
From Monday, it will not be possible to park at Pérez Llorca, since the company in charge of the works will begin to collect the materials. The next day, and once the meeting with neighbors and merchants is held, the road will be closed to traffic completely. Once the work is finished, "there will be a more residual traffic than there is currently."
