The Minister of Tourism presents the Intelligent Destination Platform in Benidorm, whose challenge is to digitize them and take advantage of the experience of connected tourists
"Benidorm is the destination that is at the forefront of this transformation process"
The Minister of Tourism, as promised in Fitur in May, has presented today in Benidorm, within the framework of Digital Tourist, the main initiative of her department to place Spain at the technological forefront of the digitization of Tourism.
For the minister, Benidorm is "the bastion, the destination that is at the forefront of this transformation process", pointing out that from here Benidorm "inspires everyone to do much better."
The platform is included in Spain Can plan; It has an endowment of 130 million euros and has become the star project of Spanish tourism to promote the recovery of the sector and place our country at the technological forefront.
Reyes Maroto highlighted in the presentation that the Platform was born in Benidorm and in the previous Digital Tourist as a “project with ambition, commitment and will”. Now fully planned, it intends, she explained, "to lead the digitization" of the sector and destinations by being "more than a technological development". For the minister, the Platform "aims to lead digitization as a smart and innovative way of working."
Key in the platform project presented today in Benidorm will be interconnection; and the fundamental challenge, said the minister, "digitize the destinations and experiences of tourists" knowing that "there are still destinations outside this process." It is expected, she pointed out, "that the platform will contribute to their loyalty."
For the minister, we start from the strength of Spanish DTI Network and propose the platform within a digital ecosystem that faces five major technical challenges related to digitization and that will act in favor of the tourist, under the prism of tourist destinations and the collaboration of companies in the sector.
For the 1st phase, the minister announced, a period of 6 months and four premises have been programmed: improve DTI network, improve the management system, develop pilot programs and analyze the results. Maroto considers that it is "an ambitious bet that will increase our tourism leadership" and that it focuses "on Spanish technological sovereignty". The presentation framework, the minister concluded, “could only be Benidorm and Digital Tourist”, wishing she, she said, to present the reality of the Intelligent Destination Platform in the 2022 edition.
The minister arrived at eleven o'clock in the morning in Benidorm and after greeting the mayor Toni Pérez and the president of AMETIC, Pedro Mier, she went up to the Mayor's Office where she signed in the Golden Book of the city with a dedication to hospitality always demonstrated towards him, pointing out Benidorm's contribution to tourism and its commitment to tourism excellence as the world's first certified DTI.
