The City Council decrees an official day of mourning that began at 1:00 p.m.

Benidorm condemns the murder in the city of a 67-year-old woman at the hands of her husband with silent concentration

27 September 2022
Concentración silenciosa

Benidorm City Council has held a five-minute silent rally at Plaza SSMM Reyes de España at 1:00 p.m. today to condemn the latest crime of sexist violence recorded on September 25 in Benidorm after the murder of a 67-year-old woman at the hands of her husband. The consistory, in addition, has decreed a day of official mourning that has begun at the same time as the concentration, for which the flags will fly at half-staff in the buildings dependent on the City Council and in the town hall with crepe.

With this silent concentration led by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, the city has shown its rejection of this social scourge, which so far this year has already resulted in the murder of 31 women hands of their partners or ex-partners. Since 2003, the year in which the victims began to be counted, there are already 1,161 women murdered. An act that has been joined by the entire local corporation, representatives of the Local Police, Civil Guard, civic associations and numerous citizens.

The victim was murdered by her husband on Sunday in Benidorm. The woman's body was found by the agents who went to her home to inform her of the death of her husband in a traffic accident after having invaded the opposite traffic lane and collided head-on with a crane truck. The agents found the door of the house open and the woman dead on the floor with two stab wounds to the chest.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log.
