The number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners amounts to 37 so far this year

Benidorm condemns the latest sexist murder of a woman at the hands of her partner in Benalmádena on November 4

08 November 2022
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has observed a minute of silence today at noon as a form of rejection and condemnation for the latest sexist crime that occurred in Benalmádena (Málaga) on November 4, as confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.

The silent concentration at the gates of the City Hall has been led by the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and several members of the local corporation, as well as neighbors who have joined the act.

The 69-year-old woman was murdered at the hands of her partner, an 80-year-old man, who stabbed her more than twenty times. The number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain has now risen to 37 in 2022 and 1,167 since records began in 2003.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
