Equality recalls the 016 telephone service for victims, which is available in 52 languages

Benidorm condemns the last macho crime that occurred on Wednesday in Torremolinos (Málaga)

19 May 2023
Minuto de silencio

Benidorm City Council has expressed today with a silent rally its condemnation of the last confirmed crime of gender violence committed on May 17 in Malaga. The concentration took place at Plaza de Sus Majestades Reyes de España, headed by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, in which members of the municipal corporation were also present.

The 28-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Wednesday at her home in Torremolinos (Málaga) by the man with whom she had had a romantic relationship. The victim had three minor children, of whom he shared the youngest with his assailant.

With this there are already 19 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,203 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted. The number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain rises to 21 this year and 398 since 2013.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
