Benidorm commemorates the 'Book Day' in l'Hort de Colón with a public reading and an animation activity for young readers

25 April 2023
Día del Libro

Benidorm has celebrated Book Day this morning with the youngest readers taking center stage in this initiative. The Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage had programmed for today a public reading and a reading animation activity in l'Hort de Colón in which the 5th-grade students of the CEIP Puig Campana have taken part.

The councilor for the department, Ana Pellicer, explained that "this year we wanted the public reading to be different from that of previous editions and for this reason, instead of proposing the continued reading of 'El Quijote', we have opted for l'Hort de Colón is filled with literary voices and diverse narrative genres, further enriching this activity”.

In this way, each participant has chosen a fragment of her favorite book or the one she is currently reading and has recited it to the rest. Pellicer highlighted that "this formula is an opportunity to get to know new authors and works, to discover genres that perhaps we have never opted for and also to find out, for example, which readings are the most interesting to those first readers who are going to join us on Tuesday”.

The public reading began at 10:00 a.m. and cultural entities have also been invited to attend. The first to read was the mayor Toni Pérez, who did so with a fragment of the book "Años y leguas" by Gabriel Miró in which Benidorm is discussed.

Subsequently, an animation activity for the 5th-grade students of  Puig Campana school began, led by Emma Lobo.
