Alongside sanitation work, tests will be carried out to verify the structural stability of the columns
Benidorm checks the safety and improves the maintenance of 200 lampposts
Benidorm City Council's Department of Urban Scene is working on around two hundred lampposts in the municipality. Specifically, many of those are located along the perimeter of Europa Avenue, Mediterráneo, Derramador, and Esperanto Street. According to Francis Muñoz, Councillor for Urban Scene, "it has been detected that some have deficiencies in their condition or appearance."
Most of the lampposts are being sanded. A product and coating are then applied to prevent rust and also repel dog urine. Similarly, each of the lampposts is undergoing a torsion test to verify its stability and rigidity. "With this, we aim to have accurate information on the condition of the lampposts and, in addition to the paint treatment, if any are found to be compromised in stability, they will be replaced," Muñoz stated.
These works will continue through the last quarter of this year and are included in the contract for the maintenance and upkeep of public lighting. "In our municipality, we have more than 7,000 streetlights, and the goal is to keep them in the best possible condition," said Muñoz, who believes these street furniture elements are essential in the urban environment because they provide safety to public streets."
