Benidorm celebrates Environment Day with two days of cleaning the seabed and the surroundings of La Cruz

On the occasion of World Environment Day, which was commemorated yesterday, June 5, this weekend two days of cleaning the natural environment have been held in Benidorm, initiatives with which the Department of the Environment of Benidorm City Council has actively collaborated. As detailed by the mayor of the Environment, Mónica Gómez, "the first of these actions on Saturday focused on cleaning the seabed at various points in our bay, while yesterday action was taken in the vicinity of La Cruz, in the Serra Gelada.

Twenty-two divers participated in cleaning the seabed, promoted by Indra, together with a coordinator, two diving boats and another support boat, and a jet ski. The cleaning work was carried out in the area between the sky cable and the Ti Ximo cove, at Punta Canfali, at the port breakwater and the port facilities themselves, and Tossal de la Cala.

Gómez pointed out that "on this occasion, we have found less waste on our seabed, which is great news that shows that citizen awareness regarding the care and protection of the environment is increasing." As on previous occasions, cans and plastics were the most extracted waste, although some mobile devices were also removed.

In addition to the Department of the Environment, the Diving Stones-Revolution Dive centre, the Maritime Unit of the Benidorm Local Police, the Yacht Club, the rural ranger, Red Cross of Altea, Promotion of Constructions and Contracts (FCC), the Serra Gelada Natural Park, Old Town, Maremoto, Greenwich Marina and Euronautica.

Already on Sunday, the activity moved to the area of ​​La Cruz with an initiative of Decathlon Finestrat, which resulted in "the collection of 27 bags of domestic waste from waste located in this area of ​​Serra Gelada". About twenty people participated in this cleaning, which lasted between 10:00 and 14:00 and with the collaboration of the rural patrol of the Local Police, the rural guard, the Serra Gelada Natural Park and the FCC.

In addition to the removal of waste, the day was completed with an excursion for the participants to the Montera area, where they were given notions of environmental education and the flora and fauna of the area.

On both days, the Department of the Environment provided supplies to the participants.
