The award that gives Thyssenkrupp annually is decided through the online vote of citizens

Benidorm, candidate to be Accessible Tourism Destination 2018

10 April 2018
Benidorm, candidata a ser Destino Turístico Accesible 2018

Benidorm is a candidate for the Accessible Tourism Destination 2018 award, which is delivered annually by the Thyssenkrupp Home Solutions entity and which distinguishes cities that bet on tourism without barriers.

In this contest, which already has five editions, citizen participation is fundamental, since fans and followers in the social networks of this entity propose the candidates. Subsequently, Thyssenkrupp verifies that the proposed cities meet the established requirements: have a comprehensive accessibility plan, have at least one accessible route and have an offer of adapted catering.

From there, the second phase of the campaign begins, which will last for six months and in which, through a popular vote online on the website www.destinoaccesible.es, a winning city is chosen by the Autonomous Community. This city will represent the region in the final round, which will run from mid-October to November 15 and will also be decided by popular vote.

Cáceres, Lugo, Avilés and Soria have received the Accessible Tourism Destination award in previous editions.

In the last two and a half years, Benidorm has developed numerous and continuous actions to advance the objective of Universal Accessibility, both in tourism and urban scene. Thus, several Accessibility Plans have been executed to eliminate architectural barriers throughout the city by building downspouts and lugs; adapted traffic lights have been installed for people who are deafblind; and collaboration agreements have been signed with the State Platform for People with Physical Disabilities (PREDIF). As a result of this collaboration, Benidorm has been included in the 'Guide to Accessible Urban Getaways' and the entity has created three experiences accessible by Benidorm after analyzing more than fifty municipal services and hotel and restaurant establishments.
