Benidorm begins work on the iconic social building of the Mediation Center

30 June 2023
Edusi Benidorm.

The first deputy mayor and acting mayor of the Benidorm City Council, Ana Pellicer, together with the contractor company, Construcciones Francés, the municipal technicians, and those in charge of the Health and Safety project, have signed this morning the act of rethinking the Center for Benidorm Mediation, which will become an innovative building in which a pioneering social care service will be provided.

The works of the new Social Mediation Center, an action of the Urban, Sustainable, and Integrated Development Strategy (EDUSI), will begin with the fencing and perimeter of the area, a municipal plot located on Avenida de Portugal, to "cause the least possible inconvenience to the neighbors during them”, as declared by the mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez. “With this highly innovative social project, we are expanding municipal services for social care and decent housing to continue standing out as a pioneering city in public services.”

The Mediation Center will house, among others, the innovative social mediation service that the consistory launched at the end of the last legislature and that "focuses our policies on turning Benidorm into the best place to live, and that is why it will also be the best place to come”, according to Toni Pérez. It should be remembered that the social mediation service "is a free and very innovative service that helps to manage and resolve conflicts between two parties to prevent disputes from ending up in court," explained Toni Pérez.

The works that are beginning now will carry out an innovative 666-square-meter building on Avenida Portugal, in the Els Tolls neighborhood. A large space distributed over two floors that will include service offices, a training room, and meeting rooms next to the waiting and citizen service areas. The design, in white concrete, will also revitalize the aesthetics of this residential neighborhood that is part of the EDUSI Benidorm area of action.

With a total budget of 1,914,770 euros, 50% co-financed by the Benidorm City Council and the European Union through FEDER funds, the Municipal Mediation Social Center joins the varied offer of social care spaces in Benidorm. This new building, which follows the line of improvement of public services, responds to Line of Action 11 of the EDUSI Benidorm that seeks the "conditioning and improvement of the endowments for social care, labor insertion, and citizen participation, optimizing the management and the use of public spaces.”

The Benidorm Government Team led by Toni Pérez presses the accelerator of municipal management as soon as the legislature begins, "beginning with social projects as important as the promotion of social housing, and attention to families that need it most, and now also from the point of view of social mediation”, according to the mayor. "The most important thing in Benidorm is the people and we are executing and developing projects that make us a pioneering city in services and social care."
