Benidorm begins the Holy Week events with the traditional proclamation

Benidorm began the Easter Week events last night with the traditional proclamation, which was enunciated a short time ago by the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, Juan Fuertes. An act that was held in the parish of San Juan Bautista de La Cala, headquarters of the Oración de Jesús Brotherhood in the Gethsemane Garden, in charge this year of organizing Holy Week in Benidorm.

Together with the presidents and older brothers of the Mayor Board of Brotherhoods and Brotherhoods of Holy Week, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, the national deputy, Agustín Almodóbar; the autonomous deputy Manuel Pérez Fenoll; the provincial deputy José Ramón González de Zárate; representatives of the Municipal Corporation and ecclesiastical authorities.

Before the attendees, the preacher evoked his first childhood memories linked to Holy Week in his native Tudela and the sensations and feelings experienced over the years during the processions that are held in Benidorm on those days.

After recalling the link between the Local Police and the Oración de Jesús Brotherhood in the Gethsemane Garden, the town crier highlighted how in the city's Holy Week "Benidorm traditions" are combined with those of other regions of the country, making this circumstance clear in the acts and processions that take place in the different neighborhoods and demonstrating that this town "is welcoming like few others".

During the proclamation, Juan Fuertes also had a memory for the people who suffer from the war in Ukraine and other armed conflicts.

After congratulating the former Chief Commissioner of the Local Police for his proclamation and highlighting his work as the head of the force for 37 years, the mayor referred to "the faith Benidorm has always had" and stressed that "Holy Week is one of our hallmarks”. A festivity, he assured, in which "thousands of tourists who come to Benidorm those days to enjoy our city are integrated"; tourists who "in many cases come from places with a great tradition of Holy Week and who marvel at how well it is celebrated here."

In his speech, in addition to thanking the Brotherhoods for their "effort" and "role", Toni Pérez recalled the relationship of Benidorm's Holy Week with Tossal de la Cala, which was the point "where we celebrated Mount Calvario and climbed in penance" for once there "to see that moon that shimmers in the sea, an image that no one should miss."

During the event, the poster announcing Benidorm's Holy Week was presented, the work of Mª Ángeles Ródenas, presided over by an image of Christ with the sea in the background and with geographical elements of the city such as the island and the Tossal de la Cala.
