Benidorm awards the camping and multi-adventure area in Séquia Mare Park for 710,253 euros

10 March 2025
Benidorm adjudica la zona de acampada y multiaventura en el Parque de la Sèquia Mare por 710.253 euros

The Local Government Board of Benidorm City Council approved the contract award for the execution of the project of 'Camping and Multi-Adventure Area in the Séquia Mare Park' for a budget of 710,253.06 euros this morning. A work included in the 2023 Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan, specifically action 11 axis 4, 'Verde Benidorm'. The award has fallen to the company Mediterráneo de Obras y Asfaltos SA and the awarded contract establishes a term of execution of the work of six months.

This action is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union-Next GenerationEU, Recovery and Resilience Facility, established by Regulation (EU) 2021/241 of the European Parliament and the Council, of February 12, 2021, Component 14, Investment 1, Submeasure 2, of the PRTR, managed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. Extraordinary program of tourism sustainability plans in destinations 2022 and 2023.

According to the project, the new camping and multi-adventure area will be located next to the facilities of the youth hostel and interpretation center to generate an environment to promote concepts and values such as sustainability, coexistence and healthy leisure. In this sense, Mayor Toni Pérez has specified that it is a project "with which we complete the configuration of this green space as a meeting point for citizens in general and the youth population in particular."

The mayor has highlighted that once finished the city will have “a space that is practically unique in the province of Alicante, which will also serve to enhance our environmental and historical wealth”, and for this reason he has expressed his conviction that “it will have a significant demand”.

The execution of the project will respect 100% of the existing paths and terraces; while the bathrooms and changing rooms will be located in the main access space near the hostel. Next to this access, as stated in the project, there will be a pergola-type enclosure with a central kitchen that will follow the typology and design of the main building of the hostel and interpretation centre.

In addition, Pérez has specified “there will be direct communication between the multi-adventure area and the camping area, but without both uses interfering with each other”.

The first mayor has recalled that the creation of all these facilities in the Séquia Mare Park “was contemplated in our strategy to undertake rehabilitation actions and enhancement of public assets, opening them to the public and citizen use”. In fact, in his opinion, the park is configured as “an ethnographic-cultural and tourist asset that facilitates the contact of the population with nature”.

“We are highlighting historical elements of the city at a point where there are still vestiges of the Séquia Mare, which was part of the old Polop Major Irrigation system, which supplied irrigation water to the cultivable vegetable garden areas of the municipal area” added Toni Pérez, for whom the camping area and the multi-adventure park will be “a new strategic axis with significant potential in terms of tourism by promoting contact between citizens and visitors with nature”.
