The City Council acquires a submersible centrifugal pump for two pumping stations, updating the system that drives these waters to the WWTP
Benidorm adds a new investment in the waste network and exceeds 5 million in six years
Benidorm City Council adds a new investment in the sewage and wastewater treatment network, which raises “over 5 million euros the resources allocated since 2015 to improve and update the network made with municipal funds or through the improvements obtained in the management contract for the facilities of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) ”.
This was transferred today by the councilor for Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, after the Local Government Board (JGL) awarded last week the contract for the supply and installation of a submersible centrifugal pump for firefighter stations 2 and 3, which has involved an investment of close to 110,000 euros. De Zárate has indicated that "thus we update the equipment of these facilities, which were over 20 years old, ensuring the correct operation of the wastewater drive system to the WWTP."
The councillor has remarked that "we are talking about highly technical facilities that require highly qualified personnel with 24-hour service, 365 days a year." “Any serious error in the maintenance or operation of the facilities - he has detailed - could prevent the wastewater from reaching the WWTP and, consequently, spilling into the city; something that Benidorm cannot afford due to an environmental and image issue ”.
De Zárate recalled that last March "we also acted urgently at pumping station number 1, located at the intersection of Mediterráneo and Ametlla del Mar avenues, replacing the main impulsion valve and investing in it about 80,000 euros. ”. The replacement of this valve –in use for almost four decades- “was included in the project to adapt the drives and pumping stations in Benidorm and l'Alfàs del Pi, a work that should have already been put out to tender and carried out by the Public Entity of Wastewater Sanitation (EPSAR) of the Generalitat Valenciana, based on the agreement signed in 2017 with the City Council ”.
The replacement of this valve and the acquisition now of the two submersible pumps “are just a sample of all the actions carried out by the City Council under the municipal budget or the contract improvements, and what we do to avoid an environmental problem in the absence of investment by EPSAR ”, he underlined.
For this reason, he has reiterated once again that "it is necessary for the Regional Goverment to comply with and tender all pending and committed investments, since the 3.5 million euros that had to arrive since 2017 have only invested 120,000 euros."
