Asmibe, Asofiben Tapis, Aerbeco and Ahedysia put into operation the traditional Solidarity Market on the occasion of the International European Day of persons with disabilities

Asmibe claims to modify Article 49 of the Constitution "to banish hurtful and unsustainable expressions"

The Disabled Association of Benidorm (Asmibe) has claimed today, on the occasion of the International and European Day of Persons with Disabilities, a modification of article 49 of the Spanish Constitution with the aim of “banishing hurtful and unsustainable expressions”, according to the manifesto that it was read today at noon.
Also today the traditional Solidarity Market has been installed at the confluence of Martínez Alejos and Gambo streets, run by the Asmibe, Asofiben, Aerbeco, Tapis and Ahedysia associations.
In the manifesto, prepared by the social movement for disability grouped in a unitary way around the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), and read by the councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca, it is indicated that the Constitution incorporated in 1978 specifically to people with disabilities in its text, in article 49, "which represented a great advance because this social group so often omitted and inconsiderate throughout history, enjoyed visibility."
However, the text emphasizes that more than 40 years after the approval of the Constitution, “its article 49 needs a renewal because neither the terminology used nor the content are aligned with the full vision of human rights, which is the only approach admissible in relation to disability ”.
For this reason, the manifesto recalled, the disability social movement has been proposing the reform of article 49 for years, "which would be the first with a clearly social content." The document also asks that it be done "with the greatest political and social consensus."
In the spring of this year, a draft reform of the article "which awaits to be debated and processed, if it gathers the necessary reinforced majorities when it comes to changes in the constitutional text, to be approved and enter into force reached the General Courts" .
The proposed reform "banishes hurtful and unsustainable expressions any longer to refer to people with disabilities, making express mention of women and girls with disabilities."
The manifesto concluded by stating that "after many vicissitudes and delays, today it is more real and closer than ever" and that is why they have demanded "all political parties, especially those who have shown reluctance, to join in with their support and intervening in parliament to perfect the starting text ”.
