Acumafu Association awards Toni Pérez for his work and solidarity with the residents from the Community of Madrid

Premio Acumafu 2023

The Cultural Association of Seniors of Fuenlabrada (Acumafu) has awarded the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, in the first edition of its 'Mayor 2023' awards, which have also recognized the figure of the former president of Hosbec, Toni Mayor, and Carlos Párraga, for having been the first to make his establishment, Alameda hotel, available to the association during the first openings in the pandemic. The award was given to the mayor for his work and solidarity with the residents of the Community of Madrid.

The event took place yesterday afternoon in the Plenary Hall of the City Council, where the president of Acumafu, Marcelo Cornellá, who is also president of the Spanish Federation for the Defense of the Elderly and Ombudsman for the Elderly, first recalled when they chose Benidorm to be their first destination as soon as they could travel in the time of Covid. “It seemed important to us and we did it safely” and he recalled the great expectation “with eleven television stations waiting for us upon arrival and many media outlets,” which translated into 243 reports.

Cornellá described it as “turning the page after the tragedy” and pointed out that the best destination for this is Benidorm “because loneliness does not exist here and it has the best hospitality for the elderly.”

For his part, the mayor thanked the recognition and highlighted that “in Benidorm people feel comfortable.” Pérez highlighted that Acumafu “came to Benidorm when we were having a hard time when we told people 'stay at home' and then 'Benidorm is waiting for you'. And here Acumafu appeared.” That is why the mayor insisted that “we did what we had to do, which was to receive that first bus.”

“What they did has a merit that we will never be able to thank,” concluded the first mayor.

To conclude, Marcelo Cornellá wanted to delve into the fact that the association he presides “will continue to promote trips to Benidorm, that we will update to provide a better service and that this city will always be in our hearts.”
