The department of Equality sponsors the prize for emerging artists to be delivered on Friday 14

From July 15 to August 15 the Fotofestival Benidorm will be held, dedicated in its first edition entirely to women. This was announced this morning by the councilor for Culture, Ana Pellicer, along with its curators José Luis Martínez and Alicia Lamarca.

"The title of this first edition," said Ana Pellicer, is "Portrait" and "will be dedicated to women photographers." The photographic festival will bring together exhibitions of renowned artists of international renown such as Joana Biarnés in El Torrejó; Lourdes Grobet, Plaza de la Hispanidad; or Angelica Dass, in the Gardens of the City Hall. To these they will accompany a group "emerging" photographers: Romina Ressia, in the Museum 'Boca del Calvari'; Sofia Moro, in El Puente; Estela de Castro, Gambo street; María Gómez, in Park of Elche; Barbara Traver, Hort de Colón Museum and María Urbán, in the Plaza del Castillo. Nine exhibitions in total. Nine public and urban spaces. "Photography will take the streets of our city," and "the most representative places of Benidorm," said Pellicer. On the other hand, the department of Equality will sponsor the prize Fotofestival Benidorm that will be delivered to the three best emerging artists in Plaza del Castillo, at 21:30 on Friday 14 July.

Parallel to the exhibitions, there will be nine window routes, nine shops in Benidorm, where nine local photographers: Dori Galiana, Alicia Lamarca. Gema Macias, Lola Marpi, Laura Medrano, Dara Nemethova, Ana Sanmartín, Ana Gemma Soto Sanchez and Olivia Such, will exhibit their works. In addition there will be activities in the Hall of Acts of the City Hall: 'The obsession to observe', conference by Sofía Moro, on Wednesday 19, at 20.00; Screening of the documentary 'Joana Biarnés, one among all', on Thursday 27, at 20.00, with the presence of the protagonist and later colloquium; The dissertation 'Photography, my way of struggle', to be made by Estela de Castro on Friday, August 4, at 8:30 p.m. De Castro will also be in charge of coordinating the 'Portrait Workshop' to be held at 10:00 am on Saturday 5. The last conference will be moved to Mirador del Castillo, where Carlos Balsalobre will speak about 'Portrait photography in the album Family 'on Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m.

Art on the street

The curator Jos Luis Martínez thanked the support of the councils of Culture and Equality to the Fotofestival because "from the first minute they believed in the project." After more than a year of work he has been satisfied to be able to exhibit in the city the "high quality" of three international photographers. For her part, Alicia Lamarca has emphasized "the tremendous support we have had from large and small merchants" and has been confident in the success of a festival that aims to "take art to the street to democratize it, so that it reaches all the world".
