The students learned how the analysis and controls of water, sand and footbaths on beaches, municipal swimming pools and the water network are made

Alumnos de 2º de Bachillerato del Bernat de Sarrià visitan el laboratorio municipal

A group of second-year Baccalaureate students from IES Bernat de Sarrià visited the Municipal laboratory of Benidorm City Council today to learn more about the work in these facilities. Together with one of their teachers, laboratory staff and the Councilor for Health, Ana Pellicer, the students have toured the facilities and learned how the analysis to control the quality of bathing water, sand and footbath, municipal swimming pools, both at Palau d'Esports l'Illa and 'Guillermo Amor' Sports City, as well as in the water network are tested.

During the visit, the laboratory staff detailed the different chemical and biological controls practised and explained the process from taking samples to obtaining the analytical results.

The Councilor for Health thanked the IES for “its interest in making students aware of the work carried out in the laboratory and, through it, making them participate in the important and constant management of health control carried out by the City Council. to guarantee at all times, for example, that our beaches and the services provided on them offer the highest quality standards.”

Pellicer recalled that “checks on the beaches are carried out every week in high season and fortnightly the rest of the year, taking samples at ten different points on the seafront: coves of l’Almadrava and Ti Ximo; three enclaves of Levante beach; three others in Westeros; Mal Pas beach; and the island.

These samples taken by the municipal laboratory professionals are subsequently analyzed to determine if they comply with the standards regulated in Royal Decree 1341/2007, of October 11, about the quality of bathing water.

In addition to testing the beaches and municipal swimming pools, the laboratory carries out weekly controls on the drinking water supply network and fountains. Also in the cisterns of the school centres; while supervising the microbiological quality of the food served in its dining rooms.
