XII International Organ Festival Benidorm 2024
Benidorm is currently one of the most important tourist centres in all of Europe, especially for its magnificent Levante and Poniente beaches. Benidorm also offers mountain routes, sea and land sports, international cuisine of excellent quality, theme parks of various kinds, museums and... in recent years, an important cultural offer.
In the world of culture and especially in that of musical culture, Benidorm has made a qualitative leap of utmost importance worldwide. The reason is that since 2012 it has had an organ of excellent quality installed in the historic parish (1740) of Sant Jaume and Santa Ana.
Since the inauguration of the organ, the parish of Santa Jaume and Santa Ana organizes an organ music festival that, annually, has attracted more than 2,000 people, which indicates that tourists and residents of Benidorm seek cultural activities in addition related to the maritime environment.
The organ of Sant Jaume i Santa Ana Church
The instrument was built in Torquemada (Palencia) in 2012 by the artisan workshop of Federico Acitores. It is an instrument of large proportions and great musical possibilities since the usual thing is to have instruments with one or two keyboards and an average of 20 registers or voices.
This organ is an instrument designed to carry out with dignity both the function of accompaniment and solemnization of the liturgy of the parish temple of San Jaime and Santa Ana and to be able to support a concert activity, as it is an instrument with great sound possibilities. All of this, furthermore, is included in a region with a lot of musical activity.
The organ of the parish of Sant Jaume i Santa Ana is an eclectic neo-baroque instrument, that is, in a way that the European baroque organs are very different from each other, the Benidorm organ is a fusion between the Iberian, German and French, thus being able to reach the largest amount of musical literature composed by the great masters of the European Renaissance and Baroque. On the other hand, the instrument has also been provided with an expressive box to reach the literature of romanticism. In short, this organ provides the town of Benidorm with an instrument of utmost importance in the region throughout the Valencian community since, as is known, very few copies have reached us after the civil war of 1936.
