Four companies have submitted to the public tender to execute the works, which are around half a million euros and which provide for the renovation of water infrastructure

The City Council addresses the third phase of pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño Street

El Ayuntamiento aborda la tercera fase de peatonalización de la calle Tomás Ortuño

Benidorm City Council will execute in the next months the third pedestrianization phase of Tomás Ortuño Street, in the section that goes from the streets Limones and Carrasco to Mars and Venus. A project that is around 500,000 euros and which is expected to act both in the subsoil and on the surface, renewing the water infrastructure and also the pavement and sidewalks of this section of Tomás Ortuño.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, reported that four companies have submitted to the public tender called by the City Council, and that went out to tender for the amount of 477,881.65 euros. Of these, 150,000 euros will be covered by the 2018 budget and 293,773.14 euros will be assumed in the next financial year.

Pérez has detailed that "as in the previous phases of pedestrianization, the bulk of this work is going to focus on the subsoil of Tomás Ortuño Street, since the water infrastructures are very deteriorated and practically all date from 30 years ". However, "the aesthetic change on the surface will be more than evident, prolonging the typology of the rest of the pedestrianized street".

"The project," he said, "provides for the renovation of the pavement creating a single platform with wider sidewalks than the current, thus favoring pedestrian transits and contributing to the revitalization of this stretch of the street as already occurred after the two previous pedestrianization processes " The formula of the unique platform will also reach Carrasco Street, which will follow the model of Apolo XI Street.

With regard to the subsoil, the mayor explained that "it is necessary to renew the water infrastructure to ensure its proper functioning."

Thus, it is planned to renovate the entire sewage network of Tomás Ortuño with a new pipeline and a new collector, and update that of Carrasco Street. Two wells will also be built to collect rainwater -one in each street- and extend the collection network executed in the previous pedestrianization phase of Tomás Ortuño. Finally, the supply network of both routes will be changed.

After this action, this stretch of Tomás Ortuño will be restricted traffic which will have to restructure the mobility of the area.
