More than 2,000 people have enjoyed the 32 stands, with products from around twenty countries, in l'Aigüera Park

Benidorm celebrates the sixth edition of 'Nationalities Day'

Benidorm celebra la sexta edición del ‘Día de las Nacionalidades’

The sixth edition of the 'Day of Nationalities' has held today in l'Aigüera Park under the slogan 'Somos Benidorm, We are Benidorm', organized by the Department of Citizen Participation and the Neighborhood Council with the collaboration of local associations which represent about twenty countries. In the park, decorated for the occasion, 32 stands with typical products from more than 20 countries were installed and more than 2,000 people participated throughout the day, confirmed the council sources.

In this day of coexistence every year a neighbor from Benidorm is honored from another country that becomes the representative of the entire group. This year the honor has fallen to the artist and Argentine choreographer, Violeta Montenegro, neighbor of Benidorm for more than 20 years, director, along with her husband, Fernando Reina, of the group The Scrap.

The central act of the 'Nationalities Day' was held in the afternoon, at 'Óscar Esplá' Auditorium. He was attended by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the councilor of Citizen Participation, Mª Jesús Pinto and the companions of the corporation Lorenzo Martínez, Paquita Ripoll and Conrado Hernández. The vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council Fernando Montes and Christian Corriani have taken the floor to present the honoree and Montenegro has thanked, excited, the tribute and wanted to share it with her husband and the members of El Desguace.

Then, Toni Pérez and Mª Jesús Pinto gave Violeta Montenegro a commemorative plaque and the mayor addressed those present to remind them that "we have the great fortune of having built a new city without leaving, in any case, forgotten our past. Who we are and where we come from. " Toni Pérez encouraged attendees to continue working "to make the Benidorm we want", a city "that looks to the future", a "land of opportunities and open where nobody is strange". About Montenegro, Toni Pérez said that he is "representative of art with capital letters" and that one day he decided to come to Benidorm "to make everyone happy".

After the interventions a folkloric show started, in which groups and soloists from most of the countries that have been cited today in Benidorm to celebrate their 'Nationalities Day' have paritcipated.
