Benidorm begins the collection of proposals for its third Participatory Budget

05 September 2017
Benidorm inicia la recogida de propuestas para su tercer Presupuesto Participativo

The forms can be filled until September 22 and one week later the contributions will be voted in an assembly

In the last two years the government has dealt with projects for an amount higher than the one fixed in the regulation

Benidorm has already begun the proceedings of its third Participatory Budget, as announced by the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Mª Jesús Pinto; the first and second vice-president of the Neighborhood Council, Fernando Montes and Cristian Corraini; and the spokesman of the Committee for Follow-up of the Participatory Budget, Juan Antonio Lizancos. Specifically, until September 22, citizens will be able to propose to what works or actions must be allocated 5% of the investment budget of the City Council.

Pinto explained in the two previous years that percentage "has been greatly exceeded" when the projects included in the Participatory Budget are executed and also when the City Council - with charge to other items - the the neighbors' proposal.

Montes has agreed that "although the regulation speaks of 5%, it is always above that amount"; and recalled that in 2017 that figure was 255,000 euros, an amount that already exceeds the project to build a footbridge between Italia Street and the sports and school complex of Salto del Agua, whose bid has been published today in the Official Gazette of the Province for 285,000 euros and was the most voted by the neighbors. But in addition to this project are added the 225,000 euros of the Neighborhood Accessibility Plan, which will exceed the 15 actions originally planned in several neighborhoods of the city as the winning company has offered an improvement of 44%.

The first vice-president of the Neighborhood Council has ventured that the proposals linked to Urban Scene and Accessibility will again be the most voted by citizens in the open assembly that has been convened for September 29. In addition, and according to the second vice president of this body, those who wish may raise their proposal in the Assembly, which will be held at 19.00 at La Casa del Fester.

Lizancos has corroborated that the Urban Scene and Accessibility are the two subjects that arouse greater interest, and recalled that in 2016 the Participatory Budget served to install children's adapted games in the parks of Elche and l'Aigüera, to "make lugs in many points of the city ", and to repair  Alfonso Puchades Avenue.

The forms to present the proposals are available in the City Hall and administrative extensions. Once completed, the forms must be submitted by registration until September 22.

The councilor has encouraged all the neighbors to make their contributions to the Participatory Budget, since this is "a tool that allows citizens to make decisions about the municipal budget and how to improve their neighborhoods and the city."
