Boca del Calvari museum reopens its doors today with the retrospective ‘Hotels of Paradise’

10 July 2020
El museo Boca del Calvari reabre hoy sus puertas con la retrospectiva ‘Hoteles del Paraíso’

Benidorm museums recover their activity after the Covid-19 health crisis. Boca del Calvari museum reopens its doors today with the retrospective exhibition 'Benidorm, Hotels of Paradise', which reviews what those first establishments of the city were like between the years 1954 and 1964. The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, has pointed out that "We believe that there is no better way to resume activity in Boca del Calvari than by revisiting the history of a fundamental pillar of our tourism industry, which has been hit hardest by the economic crisis that has resulted from the health industry."

Pellicer explained that "this exhibition, part of which the architect Juanjo Chiner curated in 2005, is therefore a 'wink' and a sign of support for our hotels in a difficult time that will be overcome." The exhibition occupies the basement and the ground and first floor of the museum, and has been made with material from the Municipal Archive to complete more than 30 panels.

The head of Historical Heritage has pointed out that "as has happened in many other areas, we have had to adapt the museum's operations to the new situation and to health regulations regarding gauging and spaces."

Thus, the museum will be open every day from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and there will be guided tours every 30 minutes to discover or rediscover ‘Hotels of Paradise’. For health security reasons, the free guided tours will be carried out in groups of a maximum of 10 people. The health conditions, in addition, “have forced us to minimize the exhibition objects, but we want visitors to have a full experience, and for this reason we are going to make it easier for them to complement their tour with the exhibition's online catalog that can be downloaded through a QR code".

Visitors will have hydroalcoholic gel at their disposal and must use a mask.

In addition to Boca del Calvari museum, l'Hort de Colon also resumes its activity, in this case with a series of concerts organized by the Department of Culture and featuring musicians from the city's three bands: Unión Musical , Sociedad Musical l 'Illa and Societat Musical La Nova. ‘Concerts at l'Hort de Colón’ will have a total of six appointments between July and August, two for each band and always on Thursdays. SM La Nova will be in charge of opening the cycle on July 16 at 8:00 p.m., and will perform again on August 13. SM L’Illa, for its part, will focus the sessions on July 23 and August 6; while UM Benidorm will play on July 30 and August 20, thus closing the cycle. The entrance is free and limited to the capacity of the garden area.
