The City Council will promote responsible use of water
The Department of Environment has assigned this morning in a public draw the urban gardens located on the street Italy, in the neighborhood Els Tolls. The draw, open to citizens, has been held in the City Council and it has chosen the 21 direct winners from among the 55 candidates who met the requirements demanded by the Department. These 21 winners join Els Tolls Neighborhood Association, which will also have a plot for cultivation. In the same drawing also has been chosen nine substitutes, who can access any of the plots in case of resignation or default of any of the winners.
The draw has been supervised by an official of the area of Secretary and in it have participated the mayor of Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, as well as several councilors of the corporation.
The councilor of the area has explained that the orchards and the playground and leisure park in which they are located will open on Saturday April 8, and that "the winners can begin to plant and work their plot on Monday, April 10." Previously, they must attend one of the two talks that the agronomist of the City Council will offer on the model and principles of organic farming. Talks to be held on April 4 at the Town Hall Hall at 12.00 p.m. and 17.00 p.m., "which are open to winners but also to people who have not obtained a plot but who are interested in knowing the Details "of organic farming.
In the coming days, the technicians are going to elaborate an agreement that will be signed with each one of the adjudicatarios in which will be regulated the use of the water for the irrigation of these orchards. De Zárate has advanced "it is going to put an accountant to see what consumes each winner" but "not with the objective of charging but promoting a rational use of water." In this regard, it has clarified that excessive consumption of water will be penalized, while those who make responsible use will pay a minimum amount.
The councilman added that the winners of the plots will be able to use the toilets of the nearby fairgrounds, as well as the booth located in this space and where they can save the tools they use for the cultivation of their plot.
Environment now opens a deadline of 15 days for possible claims or allegations to the process of awarding orchards.
New phases of ecological gardens
De Zárate recalled that these 22 plots constitute "a first phase of urban orchards". In principle, in the same street Italy there is space to create another 50 parcels, although in principle the idea is that the following phases of implantation are made in the Corner of Loix and La Cala.
