Jaime Domínguez (JimmyGo) to arrive in Benidorm this Friday for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Challenge

05 Agosto 2026
Jaime Domínguez, JimmyGo, llegará este viernes a Benidorm en su reto por la salud mental y la prevención del suicidio

The runner will complete another stage of “Breaking the Silence”, a project touring Spain to raise awareness

Tomorrow, 6 August, he will give a talk at the City Hall Auditorium

Benidorm will become one of the stops on the “Breaking the Silence” project this Friday, 7 August. The initiative, led by Jaime Domínguez Ibáñez, better known as JimmyGo, combines sport, awareness and social commitment to highlight the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.

The ultramarathon runner, a Madrid City Council firefighter and Psychology student, began this new challenge on 1 August to cross Spain in 30 days by completing 30 consecutive marathons. The route started in Málaga and will finish on 30 August in Santiago de Compostela, after passing through numerous towns along the Mediterranean coast and in northern Spain.

His arrival in Benidorm is part of the second phase of the project, continuing the initiative launched earlier this year. Between 12 April and 1 June, he ran through the 179 municipalities of the Community of Madrid, covering nearly 2,000 kilometres — the equivalent of around 45 consecutive marathons — with only his shifts as a firefighter interrupting the challenge.

The programme will begin tomorrow, Thursday 6 August, with a talk on mental health at 8:00 pm in the City Hall Auditorium. The event aims to reinforce the project's main goal: “to open spaces for conversation about a reality that continues to be surrounded by silence and stigma.”

On Friday, after completing the first 35 kilometres of the stage, Jaime Domínguez will run the final seven kilometres through the streets of Benidorm accompanied by athletes from Benidorm Athletics Club and firefighters from the Marina Baixa Fire Station. He is expected to arrive at around 11:00 am at Poniente Beach, at the intersection of Armada Española Avenue and Vicente Llorca Alós Avenue, before continuing his route to Plaza de Sus Majestades. Later, he will be welcomed by representatives of the municipal delegation.

This initiative is also supported by the BND Handball Club, Servigroup Hotels and the Hotel Managers Foundation, who have joined the project to help spread its message.

The project refers to a very significant figure: 3,953 kilometres, in memory of the 3,953 people who died by suicide in Spain in 2024. Each kilometre covered becomes an opportunity to talk about mental health, promote prevention and highlight the importance of seeking help in time.

One of the symbols accompanying this journey is the “Torch of Silence”, a wooden piece on which the families and friends of people who have died by suicide write messages, names and dedications. The torch will travel the entire route to Santiago de Compostela, where it will be burned as a collective tribute to those who are no longer with us. Beyond the sporting challenge, the project emphasises that running is only the vehicle — the means to draw attention to the cause.
