The new circuit is born from the twinning of the athletics clubs of the region
Volta a Peu de la Marina Baixa lands this Sunday in Benidorm with ‘Poniente Race 8K’
Benidorm has another running event this coming Sunday with Benidorm Poniente Race 8K, a race that forms part of the Volta a Peu de la Marina Baixa, which celebrates its first edition this year. The race will take place entirely in the Poniente area, with most of the route along the seafront promenade and Villajoyosa Avenue. The race was presented this morning by the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, who was accompanied by Manuel Martínez, president of the Benidorm Athletics Club, the event organiser, and John Galiana, commercial director of Poseidon Hotels, sponsor of both the club and the event.
‘Benidorm Poniente Race 8K’, which will start at 9:30 a.m., will count towards the 1st Marina Baixa Running Circuit 2025, a calendar that includes races already held in Callosa d’En Sarrià, Polop de la Marina, Altea, Villajoyosa, and the one taking place at the end of November in Alfaz del Pi.
Jordá highlighted the “innovative course” on which the race will be run and expressed his conviction that “it will be very well received and will have a long lifespan.” In fact, he noted that around 600 participants have already registered and that registration will close when the 750 available places are reached.
Manuel Martínez, for his part, recalled that this Marina Baixa Running Circuit “is a partnership circuit among all the athletics clubs in the region, who met, analysed the situation, and decided to move forward.” Martínez, who made it clear that “there is no fundraising motive because all the money raised goes back to the runners, the race, insurance, etc.”
The course is 7.7 kilometres long and will start in front of Poseidon Hotel. “It’s a very fast circuit,” said Martínez, adding that “the weather will cooperate.” Registration is still open until all 750 places are filled and can be completed online at www.somesport.com or on the day of the race for ten euros. There will also be children’s races in all categories up to 16 years old, with trophies awarded in each category.
John Galiana, from Poseidon Hotels, emphasised that this is “a great opportunity for those who want to start running to take their first steps because it’s a distance accessible to everyone.” Finally, Javier Jordá encouraged “everyone” to register and emphasised “the Benidorm and sport partnership” and that this race will be “the start of a circuit in which our city will be present”.
